When asked about my directing style, I'd say:
I take the traditional and present it in non-traditionally, bringing new authenticity to known works for contemporary audiences. Because of my strength with whimsy in producing entertaining works, I'm able to get audiences to see the real heart of the work and explore the depths of it. We as artists have a task of leaving our audiences with something to think about; to be curious and ask questions.
My process?
organized, precise, and intentional. Every moment is an opportunity for choice. My wide range of experience in theatre, from costuming to sound to lighting and even set design, makes me a well-rounded director; able to fully blend these skills, choices, and moments into a clear concise vision to help tell the story at hand.Â
The Trail To Oregon (2023)
When it came to The Trail to Oregon, I wanted to first pull inspiration from the game, but what took shape was a call to a different time altogether. A "simpler" time where making pillow forts in the living room and playing dress up was the norm and households had one device you'd have to share. As our crew easily transforms in the opening number from our typical 80's family into our pioneers, it illuminates a message of how much, but also little our world has really changed. Although the bits and scenes are deeply dramatized, the themes of family dynamics whilst trying to survive and the pure absurdity of life, are ones still relevant in 2023.
